The Concordia Police Department is inviting parents and guardians of teen drivers to attend Missouri's First Impact Program on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
First Impact is a free educational program designed to help parents and guardians understand the critical role they play in reducing the risks faced by newly licensed teen drivers. Developed through the Missouri Safety Center, the program provides valuable information, practical tools, and proven strategies that families can use to help keep young drivers safe on Missouri roadways.
Motor vehicle crashes remain one of the leading causes of injury and death among teenagers. Research consistently shows that parental involvement is one of the most effective ways to reduce crash risks for inexperienced drivers. First Impact equips families with information about Missouri's Graduated Driver License Law, common driving hazards, distracted driving, passenger safety, seat belt use, impaired driving, and the importance of setting clear expectations for teen drivers.
During the program, participants will learn how to establish and enforce family driving rules, communicate effectively with teen drivers, and recognize situations that place young motorists at greater risk. The presentation also highlights real-world scenarios and statistics that demonstrate the importance of continued parental guidance after a teen receives a driver's license.
The Concordia Police Department encourages all parents, grandparents, guardians, and other adults involved in mentoring young drivers to attend. The program is especially beneficial for families with teens who are preparing to obtain a driver's permit or who have recently received their driver's license.
"Parents are the most influential driving instructors a teenager will ever have," said Sgt. Stephen Phillips of the Concordia Police Department. "The First Impact Program provides families with the knowledge and resources needed to help young drivers make safe decisions behind the wheel and reduce the likelihood of being involved in a serious crash."
The First Impact Program will be held on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Concordia Police Department. Attendance is free, and community members are encouraged to participate.
